William R. Eubanks honors fabric maven Christopher Hyland with a dream room designed especially for Christopher. We are inspired by vibrant colors of the tropics, best rendered in silk, counterpointed by Syrie Maugham’s white-washed furniture. The living room displays playful and profound paradoxes; neutral and colorful; cook and hotl casual and luxurious; nonchalant and sophisticated. Cool shades of cream and white serve as a backdrop for got, acid greens and electric blues. Lavish silk damasks with extravagant passementerie rest on subdued sisal matting, with antique rugs scattered about. The castle-sized, Moorish-style sofa is covered in silk, caged ottoman appointed with braids and nail heads. Fauteuils in terry-cloth velvet of zebra print on sand tones flank the sofa. The grouping is anchored by a glorious Flemish 17th century tapestry of Napoleon’s victorious return to Rome in a chariot drawn by elephants. White-crusted mirrors and consoles echo once again Syrie Maugham’s inimitable style. What could be more appropriate for Palm Beach than the melding of island colors and contemporary touches in a timelessly classic room?
